Excerpt One:

 

Could she call the States from Isla Island? Because Brent traveled so much they had a comprehensive cell plan. She powered up her phone. Seconds later a text message beeped through. Her hand shook as she recognized Brent’s number.

 

Can’t believe U did this. Where R U?

 

She texted him back. Cabana Resort, Isla Island. I’m sorry.

 

She widened her eyes when seconds later a response popped up. He must have been waiting for her message. She could imagine his fury. Fortunately she was hundreds of miles away. Of course, if she hadn’t been hundreds of miles away, he wouldn’t be mad. With any hope, he’d cool off some by the end of the week. Or would he be angrier by then?

 

U R in so much trouble. B there Thurs.

 

Did that mean what it sounded like? She gulped. U R coming here? Yes. We’ll talk.

 

Talk was often a euphemism, but of course she wanted him to join her. Her heartfelt wish had been for her and Brent to take the trip together. And she was ninety-nine percent sure he wouldn’t spank her at a resort.

 

A young couple bounded onto the van. They greeted her with a hello and settled into a seat near the front on her side. Two women, arm-in-arm, wheeled their suitcases to the curb and boarded. More hellos. Of course everyone would be paired up. Cabana Resort promoted itself as a couples’ getaway.

 

Can’t U come sooner? She texted Brent.

 

Got the mtg.

 

Oh, right. His meeting. This wasn’t all her fault. He’d provoked her by his cluelessness.

 

Fine! She punched in her response.

 

This was Saturday. She’d make the most of the next five days before Brent arrived and she gave him a piece of her mind.

Okay, the reviews will be shorten a bit since I’m reviewing two stories.  🙂

Wife on the Lam is my favorite story in the book.  There is plenty of humor and Ty just cracked me up at times.  You just have to read it just for Ty alone.  I need to preface that spanking is a trigger for me.  Childhood issues and why I have never spanked my son.  Anyway…

What I truly liked about this one is that even though Janelle knew what she did was wrong, I agreed with her reasons.  This is about a seasoned couple and how domestic discipline works.  I didn’t feel like their relationship was solely based on spankings.  They each had their role in the marriage and it worked.  Sure there were spankings but compared to the next story, this relationship was based on mutual respect and love for each other.  Brent wasn’t mean to Janelle but I could see the mutual desire for the spankings.  I also loved that even though Janelle knew what she did was wrong and would be punished for it, Brent didn’t take it too far.  You really need to read the book because Ms. Bristol could have taken their story a couple of steps further but based on the situations that Janelle got herself into with Ty, Brent’s punishment wasn’t sadistic or mean.

Overall, I would recommend Wife on the Lam to everyone.  Sure there is sex and spankings but the underlying story is about love, communication and mutual respect for your partner.

That said, Rahm’s Way is a completely different take on the discipline aspect.  There is BDSM involved and a bit of “did Ms. Bristol really put that scene in”.  Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with Rahm in any way.  I felt like he was too heavy handed and didn’t respect Cadence at all.  I understood that they had the D/s aspect also in the relationship but I didn’t feel the love connection with them.  After two years being apart, I would have liked them to maybe build up to the domestic discipline aspect of their relationship.

Cadence really grew into her own while Rahm was away.  In fact, his own brother, Aaron, helped her.  Which I thought was interesting because Aaron knew about their dynamic.  It seemed that Aaron liked the more confident Cadence and Rahm didn’t.  It seemed that Rahm was threatened by Cadence and instead of communication, he was just into the punishment phase.

Overall, I did like the story, just not as much as  Wife on the Lam.  It was very well written and I still can.not.believe the scene at the end.  *fans self*  I’ve heard about it but this is my first time ever reading it.  😉  I bow down to Ms. Bristol for that.  I’m no prude but still.

 

 

Rahm’s Way

Before her military husband left for his tour of duty, Cadence Simmons relied on Rahm’s love, direction, and protection. He unfolded his crossed arms. “Instead of sharing your feelings, you sneaked behind my back and presented me with a fait accompli.”

 

“What good would sharing my feelings have done? You still would have said no.”

 

“Yes, but we would have talked this out. You agreed that when you and I differed, I would have the final say. Do you think you should be able to pick and choose which rules you should follow?”

 

Sometimes, yeah, she did. “No,” she replied.

 

“Don’t you think there should be consequences for disobedience?”

 

In general, yes. Did she wish she could avoid those consequences, hell, yes! “I guess,” she muttered mutinously. She glanced at his face. He arched his eyebrows. Don’t make it worse for yourself. “I mean, yes, Rahm,” she amended in a more respectful tone.

 

He unlocked a drawer in his desk and extracted a paddle. “Here?” Cadence squeaked.

 

He pulled an armless wooden chair away from the small round meeting table adjacent to his desk and sat. “Lower your pants.”

 

“Rahm, please. Couldn’t we at least wait until tonight? At home?”

 

“I didn’t choose the time or venue, Cadence, you did.”
