Detective Douglas Brody has only ever known the life of a cop. Raised strict but fair by his police chief father, he joined the academy right out of school, climbed the ranks hard and fast, and now works homicide for the City of Charleston. The job is his entire life. For years it’s kept him happy enough to minimize the side of him that craves what he believes is wrong. When an accident on the job puts him temporarily off duty, everything in Brody’s world changes. He has to prove himself once more to be best cop in the department, all while dealing with Zack – his persistent, sexy, and out of the closet physical therapist.
Zack is big grins, floppy hair and tackles his job with the same full-blown enthusiasm he does everything else. When the “patient from hell” is thrown his way by another PT who can’t handle him, Zack is committed to achieving the impossible. His new patient is a head strong and hot as hell homicide detective, who oozes as much resentment as he does sex appeal. Any involvement with a patient, never mind a man who is so deep in the closet he can’t see light, is something Zack swore he’d never do again.
But Brody slowly proves too much to resist…
He could work out a resting heart rate from this, listening to the strong thumps, quickly glancing down at his watch. Decent. Resting below sixty. Brody was fit. A lot more fit than he gave himself credit for. The muscles in his chest were defined, and that didn’t come from police work. He had to work out regularly.
The meat of Zack’s hand rested on his broad chest, fingers moving on the swell of his pectorals as they rose and fell with each breath. The stir in his shorts brought him back front and center to the fact that this wasn’t the best idea. Leaning over his very attractive and touch-phobic patient. Even if all he intended to do was see if the man could lighten up. Maybe even laugh.
He wasn’t laughing now. When Zack lifted his eyes to Brody’s, he was hit with the full intensity of stormy gray. Not filled with amusement anymore but with something else.
It sent heat down Zack’s spine and into his shoes. He wasn’t even listening to the beats, just frozen in place with the buds in his ears, fingers still pressed to Brody’s chest as they stared at each other. The humor of the moment fell away as Brody continued to stare, arms still folded behind his head, mouth set into a straight line.
Zack straightened a tad too sharply and tucked the scope around his neck. Pulling his face into a rehearsed, easy smile, he hid the heat thrumming in his veins. “Yeah. You’ll live.” He started backing toward the door and gave a lame salute that made him want to cringe. God he was such a spaz. “I…I’ll see you next week.”
He rushed to exit stage left, narrowly missing the doorframe on the way out.
Zack could be downright pushy when he went into healthcare-professional mode. Brody wasn’t used to being told what to do. The small voice inside him that rejoiced in response was the one he hated most. He clenched his eyes shut and relaxed his leg.
“Good,” Zack said, his voice low as he focused.
He scooted himself up, knelt down, and hooked Brody’s knee over his arm, placing one hand at the back of his thigh, the other on the front. Brody tensed everywhere. He didn’t mean to, he probably shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help it.
“Relax. Hey,” Zack said and didn’t say another word until Brody opened his eyes and met Zack’s gaze. “Relax. The cramp comes right back if you’re tense. Trust me.”
Brody nodded again because it was all he could manage. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Zack. Oddly enough, he did. But he didn’t trust himself. He didn’t like being in someone else’s hands—yet he did. He wasn’t comfortable with the vulnerability, but he was. And the position he was in was more than a tad suggestive. Except, of course, to someone like Zack. Zack, who only saw physiology, muscles, and ice packs. Cramps instead of sexual tension. Charlie horses instead of thighs.
“Good,” Zack repeated as Brody relaxed.
Brody focused on the trees to his left and tried not to think about the man between his legs or the hands all over him. It made him wonder about the next time he could get out of town.
“Is this helping?” Zack asked.
“Huh? Oh…yeah. Thanks,” Brody answered without looking at him.
Zack didn’t say anything. Didn’t move. Didn’t seem to breathe.
Brody knew it was his way of making Brody either talk or look at him or pay attention. Drove him fucking nuts, but it worked. Brody turned his head to glare at Zack like a pissed-off delinquent, but when his eyes found Zack, Zack wasn’t looking back.
Zack’s gaze was somewhere below Brody’s waist, dragging along one thigh, then the other. His attention lingered there, and Brody felt it all the way through his skin. It wasn’t professional Zack checking out his alignment either. Far from.
Something different, something hungry flashed in the deep brown of Zack’s eyes. Brody felt a lick of pure heat drag up his spine and back down. Straight to his groin. He didn’t know what he did to make Zack meet his eyes. He didn’t flinch or gasp or do anything besides remain frozen in place. Still, Zack looked at him, his eyes weaving a tale that had nothing to do with physical therapy.
Grasping fingers, slick skin, entwined bodies, and the kind of intensity that hurt so good you’d want it again and again. It sparked between them and hung in the air, thicker than the midsummer humidity. Brody recognized the same lust that continued to torture him right there in Zack’s eyes.
Confession time. I don’t read straight M/M. I will read it in a menage but there has to be a girl involved. That said I took a chance with Slow Burn and I’m so glad that I did. This is a beautifully written about a so closeted male that it was going to take someone like Zack, secure in his sexuality to bring Brody out.
One of things that stood out for me was the author was able to bring the attitude that Brody had with being a gay man on the police force. It’s not something that is talked about or even accepted. Again, written beautifully and made Brody that much more of an interesting character and why the totally resistance to Zack. And that was another thing…Zack was patient with Brody. They really got to know each other and the sexual build up was great in the end. I also appreciated the fact that these two don’t have sex until much later in the book. But lordy when they did…bring a fan, a toy, a water hose…something because I’m not used to M/M sex scenes but these were emotional and beautiful.
The one thing that really got my juices going was the suspense element in the book. I’m a sucker for a romantic suspense and I really liked how the element was woven in and wrapped up. Made sense to me and it was totally believable. Plus, it was the catalyst that Brody needed to finally realize the lie that he was living. Plus, this book wasn’t full of angst or someone/something trying to break them up. It was truly a great romance book about two people falling in love. One hotter than hell (Brody), uptight and soley focused on his job. The other one, gay or not, you just wanted to be friends with and hang out with.
Again, I don’t read the genre but I will definitely read another book by the author. The plot was realistic, the characters were easy to relate to and believable and come on…I’m a sucker for a romantic suspense regardless of the couple. 🙂

Chris calls his darkest, nastiest fantasy into the light of day when he has to kidnap Kat to save a friend. For years, he’s wanted to bring her to her knees.
But claiming her draws attention. Andreas wants to save Kat, until he sees her response to raw male dominance.
More dangerous are the human traffickers, who regard the acquisition and selling of women as a very high stakes business. And they’re watching. Everything.
Death. The perversion of love. The loss of freedom.
Sometimes there is no choice.
Warning: Capture fantasy; dubious consent; anal play; strap-on; M/f/M and f/f scenes; BDSM themes including caning, spanking, bondage, and piercing, as well as some upside-down naughtiness.
Also contains one Dom gone bad who believes obsession means never having to say you’re sorry.
Why the capture fantasy in your writing?
Because I enjoy both reading and writing it. Because ordinary romance doesn’t do it for me even when there’s BDSM in there too. A romance with BDSM is still a romance.
I love the excitement you get with capture fantasies. The uncertainty. It doesn’t have to end in romance, though it can. I love that I can get down and dirtier. That I can write men who really are bad boys lol And not just men with a bad temper, or some criminal tendencies, or whatever. Juggling a story where the men abduct the women and putting it into a modern setting and then having to get readers to like the men, wow, hard to do. If I get the story really right so that the reader wants all the immoral stuff to happen to the woman, that’s satisfying for me. Doing that twisty mind trick is the best. It means I’ve written the story well.
And of course I love the core principles of these capture fantasies – the male dominance, the man being so determined to have that special woman as his own that he will abduct her to have her.
But it’s all fiction, it’s all about writing out fantasies, and it’s a type of fantasy I’ve often read in the past. I’m sure I will get some readers going what the hell am I reading? Because there will always be those who pick up a book without really understanding what sort of book it is. But I’ve found there’s a big crossover of readers from kinky consensual BDSM stories to capture fantasy. I’m even corrupting some of my fans who have never read these before 😉
No book appeals to everyone and I’m sure some people who read books featuring serial killers doubt their reasons for liking to read them. Us humans have some pretty weird tastes in stories. If you do love reading capture fantasies, know that there’s a quite a big audience for these. A lot of women enjoy reading them.
Also, when writing the series have you felt like you’ve gone too far?
With this book. Lol
As you may know if you’ve followed my facebook posts.
I had to be reassured at regular intervals by Sorcha Black, my crit partner, that the story wasn’t getting too extreme. Something about the combination in Make me Yours Evermore hit some of my limits as a writer. I can read worse than I can write. After the beta readers gave me their feedback, I discovered I’d been writing around the scenes in the story that squicked me out. I’d handed control of scenes to Andreas when it should have been Chris who was the dominant. I’d even totally glossed over one scene. I summarized it as a flashback memory.
(Small and dirty spoiler: This was the upside down face fucking scene. )
Chris was probably the main cause. He was too far into the dark for me. By the end of the book though, I’m happier with him. He grows as a character. He changes. I think I like men in these stories to have more remorse than he does. He dives into abducting Kat with barely a backward glance. It’s what he wants to do, the opportunity is there, so he does it.
I have to admit that I wanted to write this story darker than my previous ones. I try to change the way these stories unfold with each new book. I try to go darker in some way. Some say I achieved that, some think it’s as dark as Bind and Keep me. Everyone sees a book a little differently.
Embarrassment had reached new depths. It was one thing standing in a room naked and getting whipped by a Dom you’d selected carefully and teed up your limits with. I had control over that. But this? Kneeling on the breakfast counter with my hands behind me and basically chained to the wall while wearing a wet, milk-soaked scrap of a dress?
I wanted to sink into the floor. Even more so since I knew having them do what they’d done – stared and treated me like a pet they had to feed, had turned me on so much I was afraid to open my legs. I could feel how slippery I was down there.
When Andreas excused himself and wandered off down the hallway to the toilet I relaxed some. One gone. Maybe now, I’d get freed. I braced myself for the evil I had to do, begging from him… Then I raised my eyebrows, in a hopeful fashion, at Chris.
He deadpanned back at me.
Shit. Did I have to whine? I was not whining. But I wasn’t game to speak. Chris’s suggestion of a piñata and the crocs hearing my beating had been ominous.
The stool scraped on the floor as he stood.
I managed a forced smile when he came to the counter and hopped up on it, sitting next to me with his legs dangling over the edge.
“You were very, very good,” he drawled.
I blinked and tried to stamp down on my awareness of the difference between him, free, a dominant man and inches from me, and me tied up. It was electric. Chris was the epitome of alpha male. In the past, his pale blond man-god good looks had always steamed up my female sex goggles in milliseconds. I couldn’t help holding my breath and giving my lower lip a tug with my teeth. Pure body reaction, I reminded myself, I still hated him. I did, I did.
His slow perusal of my breasts and the trail of milk and cornflakes down my belly made me both melt into a sizzle of goo and want to snap out something like…like, I’m not your breakfast. Noo. God no. Need a spoon? Fuck no, not that either.
Surreptitiously, I twisted one wrist, praying it was loose.
He spotted that movement and his mouth curved. “It’s amusing, Kat. Watching you. Watching you and knowing I can touch you without you doing anything to stop me. Knowing you’re aroused too.”
“I’m not aroused,” I ground out through my teeth. “Andreas will be back soon!” My glare would hopefully turn him to ashes.
“You speak?” Gently he began to roll the dress up my thighs. I tensed and squeezed my thighs together. “Uh-uh. No hiding there. Open.”
I glared some more.
Chris moved in and nipped my nose. Shock hummed through me as his other hand wrapped around my breast, squeezing tight. Big hand, hard grip, small pains that did things to me. I squirmed on the spot.
I hated possession like this – the casual owning of a woman bothered me, especially if it was me. But with his hand on me there, and the wrist bondage, with my arms pulled back out of the way, I had nowhere to go. Fuck. Hate you Chris.
Yet what he did fed heat into my groin.
“Open your eyes, Kat.”
I snapped them open. Crap. I’d closed them without meaning to.
“I knew you were turned on because you’ve dripped on the counter.”
Mild panic to mortified in one second flat. Knowing he’d seen my moisture coming from me… I stared at him. Amusement, lust, and the satisfaction of a Dom who’s hit the humiliation and torture button flickered across his face.
His thumb swept over my breast teasing my nipple as he added in a matter of fact way, like it was a done deal. “I’m going to make you come now, Kat. If you don’t want Andreas to see, be good. If you’re bad, I can stretch this out forever.”
